This script is pretty much based entirely on 'Battle Royale', which I thought was a very promising film from the outset, but failed to deliver. I have tweaked the storyline so it plays the way I want it to. The main characters are all people I know, and I may include pictures of them. The setting is my school, and if I manage to get one, I will include a decent map of it, otherwise I will have to draw one :(
I have included a few pictures, one being my second gif, so don't expect anything clever.
The enemies encountered throughout the movie are loosely based on people from the school but I don't think it would be a good idea to include names.
For your information: The name of the characters speaking the lines are in green, directors notes are in yellow and speech is white.
I think this is going to be very difficult to read all of, if you are struggling, print it out. It will come to about 10 pages if you put it into a reasonable font.
[The not too distant future]
A mysterious voice: The population boom had crippled the economy. There just wasn't enough to go around. Drastic action was taken.
The tournament was born.
The competitors in the tournament do not enter themselves, they were picked at random. The tournament had been introduced to remove a massive drain on the economy. It was to fulfill its purpose.
The tournament was the survival of the fittest.
[Cut to KEVIGS, Edward Street hall]
[Years 7 through 10 have already had their vaccines, Year 11 are just having their weigh in]
Ian: Tell me again, why are we being weighed?
Peter: So they don't give you the wrong dose. You don't want to get too little and still be susceptible and you don't want too much and end up in a coma.
Johnny: I thought that there is a national shortage of vaccines, what's changed?
Nurse: Nothings changed, your school was randomly selected from a national draw. Only this school and one other in the country have been selected. You are very lucky.
Timson: Some people don't seem to think so.
[Shows some idiot girl, bawling her eyes out. She's scared of needles]
[Whole school assembly]
James Wheeldon (the Headmaster): This assembly has been called today in order for you to hear this announcement.
This school has been selected for the tournament.
[Harsh intakes of breath, evidently some people have heard of it]
[In burst a team of mercenaries. All dressed in full body armour and carrying sub-machine guns]
James Wheeldon: Listen to me. This school has been selected. You must compete in the tournament for a chance to survive.
Some kid: And if we refuse?
James Wheeldon: You cant refuse, the only way to survive is to be one of the five champions. The five champions are the only ones who will get the anti-venom.
Some kid: Anti-venom, what the hell are you talking about?
James Wheeldon: The anti-venom is the only cure to the venom you have just been injected with.
Some other kid: You bastards!
[The kid pulls a knife, aims to throw it at the headmaster and gets riddled with bullets]
James Wheeldon: There will be no more questions. Collect a pamphlet on your way out
Guy: When does it begin?
Timson: It already has.
Pamphlet at bottom of page
Johnny: We need to hole ourselves up as quick as possible and get armed.
Ian: But there's 8 of us, only 5 people can claim the cure.
Johnny: Forget about it, we can worry about that later. Follow me!
[Chris Cook aka Cookie, Chris Timson aka Timson, Johnny Mann aka Johnny, Guy Moore aka Guy, Peter Young aka Peter, Ian Brown aka Ian, James Town aka Towny and James Donaldson aka Donaldson are running for the quad. Arrows whine overhead. THWACK, a knife (thrown from afar) pierces deep into Donaldson's leg]

Donaldson: Jesus Christ, my leg!
Cookie: Don't worry, we've got ya!
[Cookie and Timson pick up Donaldson and carry him with the others, to Q4]
Johnny: We're here. Get Donaldson onto the back table. Block the door with the teachers desk.
Guy: Everybody break yourself off a table chair or leg, we're gonna need 'em.
Towny: Try to make sure the ends are as jagged and sharp as possible.
Ian: Why?
Towny: (Smiling grimly) You'll see.
Johnny: We're gonna need a sentry to watch the door, he should stand on this chair and look out of the window, prepare us for assaults on the room. I'll go first.
[11 minutes later]
Johnny: There's three on the way to the door, ones got a bat, the others massive sticks, unblock the door, we might need it later. They've got yellow ties, so I'm guessing they're Year 9's. They've been in the wars, one's limping.
[They unblock the door. Guy is hanging off the light above the door, ready to drop a bag-full of math books on their heads. Everyone has a metal bar ready. In run the three, Guy swings the bag and takes out the fore-runner, Towny clubs the second to the floor and Ian follows suit. Donaldson is promptly sick]
Peter: So, this is what we've sunk to.
Timson: The world has sunk, we're just living in it.
Towny: They were gonna die anyway and so are we. All of us are poisoned, we aint gonna last.
Donaldson: I've been reading this pamphlet, it says we've got to move at least 100 metres every 2 hours.
Timson: We ran here from the sports hall, that's about 150 metres, and that was an hour and a half ago.
Peter: Right, since this rooms full of bags we might as well make use of them. Tear the straps off, I've got an idea.
[They gathered up all the bags from the room and tore the straps off of them. They tied them around table tops and made crude shields]
Donaldson: We cant move with these in-tow.
Timson: Good point, snap them in half and will we take one each.
Cookie: Are you gonna be alright to come with us Donaldson?
Donaldson: My legs pretty weak, I dunno.
Ian: We could make a brace, with half a table leg and a couple of bag straps.
[They brace Donaldson's leg.]
Donaldson: The brace is ideal, it will stop me from bending the leg and damaging it worse, but the strangest thing is; it doesn't hurt anymore.
Guy: Yeah, its the venom, it deadens the nerve endings. Its supposed to add an edge to the game, at least that's what the pamphlet says.
Johnny: How long till we gotta move?
Timson: 10 minutes.
Ian: Where we heading for?
Guy: We need somewhere defendable, only one entrance.
Cookie: What about if we need to escape?
Guy: No, its just not practical, if we had to defend 2 sides we would be too thinly spread, a small attack would finish us.
Timson: I know where to go, the roof of Foundation House, there is only one way up and not many people know about it. Its not too difficult to get onto but it would be easy to defend against attack and it would offer an immediate escape route.
Towny: That sounds as good a place as any, lets go.
[They cautiously open the door, Cookie goes first, the way is clear. They run down the main stairs and out of the quad. They turn right and head for the back of the quad]
Guy: We need to stay out of sight, keep noise to a minimum.
[They get along the back-side of the quad but there is a gang of 11 year 8's hacking a corpse to pieces in their path. The year 8's are alerted to their presence by Towny's shouting]
Towny: Oi, you wazzers, you've given me gob one too many times on the bus, now you're gonna die!
[The year 8's turn, they are wielding large sticks, one has the right arm of the corpse.]
Peter: You sick bastards.
[Two of the Year 8's charge, unbeknownst to Guy + co, another is sneaking around them]
Donaldson: It's them or us, lets finish this.
[Peter uses his table leg to great effect and spears it through thee leading kids neck, Cookie kills the other with a heavy thud on the head with his table leg.]
[The rest of the year 8's charge whilst Guy + co make a curved line, ready for battle]

[As the kids are about a metre from hitting them, guy + co force forward their table legs and start laughing]
Cookie: Muppets, their sticks are far shorter than our table legs, there rotten as well. They don't stand a chance.
[At this moment Ian shouts out and falls to the floor, he has been stabbed. The stabber is grabbed by the throat and has a table leg forced through his rib cage, Donaldson has just killed him and spits on his mangled body for effect.]
Donaldson: Stab that you dirty little bastard!
[All out mayhem ensues,

the only people left standing are Peter, Johnny, Guy, Timson, Donaldson and Cookie. From the ground comes a moan;]
Ian: Are you gonna help me up or are you just gonna stand there chuckling?
Timson: You're still alive! I thought you were done for sure.
Ian: (now helped to his feet) No, twas just a flesh wound, those kids don't have enough strength to run through this impenetrable hide.
[Ian takes his mobile phone, smashed to pieces out of his pocket and drops it to the floor]
Cook: We cant stop now, keep moving.
[They get onto the field and monkey run their way behind the mud pile built up due to the building works. At the end of the mud pile they jump the fence and run alongside it until they reach the path, they run down the path and onto the top-field, its strewn with bodies, a few are still moving and are engaged in feeble fights. They cut across the field and through the conifers to the back of Foundation House and climb onto the roof one by one.]
Johnny: I cant believe they got Towny, I didn't think anything could stop him, he capped three but he only gave the third a glancing blow and lost his balance.
Peter: Talk about kick a man when he's down, they stomped his head in.
Timson: I fought my way through to him but was too late, I couldn't save him.
Cook: It wasn't your fault, at least he doesn't have to worry about dying, I hate this, waiting here for the next assault on us. We're sitting ducks Damnit!
Johnny: What would you rather we did? go out and fight? Lunacy, we have a real chance of survival here.
Peter: But there's 7 of us, only 5 can claim the cure.
Johnny: Worry about that later, we've got more pressing troubles.
[Points to a group of four year 10's, its the 'MOIYT CRU' from that year and they are all doing the meat walk. Their clothes are blood stained and one has what looks like a broken arm. None are carrying weapons]
Guy: Those four do my head in at the best of times, let's get 'em!
Johnny: Kill or scare?
Guy: We'll see how it plays out, but on even terms.
Johnny: Come on Timson, Cookie drop your table legs, lets teach them some respect.
[They jump down and the four year 10's suddenly notice them. Full of ignorant confidence they stroll up in their usual cocky swagger. This is too much for Johnny, who lunges for one of their throats]
Johnny: You're not dealing with little kids now, you pathetic little spineless arrogant bastard!
[Johnny and Guy knock two of the their heads together, they drop to the floor unconscious, the other two run in fear for their lives. The four pick up the year 10's and throw them over the nearby fence.]
Timson: Let someone else finish them, I don't want another death on my conscience.
[The four climb back onto the roof to rejoin the others however they are unable to see what has become of the two year 10's, as the fence is just in the way. They soon hear what happens to them though:]
Unknown voice: There's two, looks like they're hurt. Lets get them!
[Clubbing noises and a bloodcurdling scream]
Johnny: I've realised something. Sooner or later were gonna have to go hunting, if we want to get the cure, we're gonna have to...
Timson: He's right, either we go out on the hunt for survivors with the risk of dying or stay here with a guaranteed death.
Guy: Are we all fit to go though?
Ian: Yeah, I'm only bruised with a minor cut, besides I don't wanna rot here.
Cook: And you Donaldson?
Donaldson: I should be okay, but I'm not fit for running.
Peter: You go second in the line, that way you can call the pace, but not be in too much danger. We should rotate the person who leads, that way nobody is put into an unfair position.
Timson: There's only an hour and a 1/4 left in the school day.
Guy: Jeez, we better leave now. We will check building by building, room by room.
Donaldson: Lets go.
[They climb down and methodically check all the rooms on the ground floor of Foundation House. All were clear, next they tackle upstairs, the IT room. This is occupied]
Guy: I'm sure I can hear voices, 2 or 3 at least.
Donaldson: Lets storm in, take the surprise advantage.
Peter: 3, 2, 1.
[They kick the door in, Cookie who entered first is knocked into the door to Mr. Robert's 'sanctuary' and quickly rolls to the side before they battered him senseless. Guy bursts in, koshes Cookie's attacker and everyone else rushes in through the narrow doorway. Timson breaks the neck of one with a hefty blow to the chin. Ian gets the last with his bars jagged edge swiped across the back.]
Donaldson: You okay Cookie?
Cookie: Yeah, I was caught off guard. I'm gonna have a hell of a bruise where my back hit that door though.
[They quickly finished checking Foundation House and moved onto the sports hall]
Timson: What the f**k, they are playing basketball, what a waste of your last day. We're gonna have to put them out of their misery.
[They open the door and walk in. The door swings to, slowly and loudly creaking.]
[There are four players, they turn and stare at Guy + co, their eyes linger over the blood covered metal bars each of them are wielding.]
Player 1: We don't want to fight, we are in here out stay out of trouble.
Guy: Don't be a fool, if we leave you you're still going to die. There are only 5 shots of the cure, and those are ours.
Player 1: Just leave us, we don't want the cure.
Timson: If you are still alive we wont be able to claim the cure. We don't have any other option.
Player 2: I don't have to listen to this, these guys are jokers. If they were going to kill us they would have done.
Johnny: You're already dead, we all are.
Peter: Accept it, better this way than ...
[Faced with no other choice the players kneel and lower their heads]
Johnny: If there was any other choice...
Ian: I'm sorry.
[The players are killed, are mercifully as possible]
Guy: I never thought it would come to this.
Ian: Fighting somebody who wants to fight is one thing but this... (shakes head)
Peter: If we didn't kill them they would have died anyway.
Johnny: It's little consolation.
Donaldson: How did society get to this point? These people had so much potential, its all gone, its all gone.
Ian: How can society allow such a travesty?
Johnny: If I get through this things are gonna change. This is, its ... its barbaric.
Peter: There's not long left now, we should go to the room of champions. The first five through the door at the end of the school day wins. Judging by the dead we've already encountered, we could be the last left.
Guy: Regardless, we need to be careful.
Ian: So where is the hall of champions?
Peter: It's the staff room.
Cookie: The entrance to the staff room is almost un-holdable.
Johnny: Being realistic there should be enough of us to hold it, there cant be many competitors left. How many would you guess? Not many I'll warrant.
Timson: Which entrance should we use to get to the staff room doorway?
Donaldson: Well, theres the main entrance, the stairs down to it, or through the medical room.
Guy: The medical room doorway is always blocked, whilst unblocking it would be easy, it would be noisy, we cant afford to alert anybody who might be there . The stairs would be difficult to fight our way down, it has to be the main entrance.
Ian: You're right.
[They make their way to the main entrance of the Lodge and stop at the door.]
Timson: From this point we need absolute silence, someone might be guarding the door, lead on Peter, its your turn.
[The group of 7 stealth their way through the doorway and up to the doorway immediately before the staff room doors, Peter gets through the doorway and falls to his knees. He has been stabbed by a flick knife, the stabber pushes Peter's convulsing body over and steps out. He is well over 6 foot tall and built like a brick shit house. Two smaller but still close to 6 foot people step out from behind him. Peters stabber pulls the knife out of Peters now dead body and shouts:]
Head thug: Who's next?
[Guy steps forward only to get a hand on his shoulder to hold him back. The hand is Johnny's and its shaking with anger.]
Johnny: You stabbed him at unawares you cowardly bastard. Lets see how you fare on even terms.
[Johnny drops his table leg and receives the knife from Donaldson. He swings at the thug wildly but misses completely, he is too overcome with rage. The thug swipes at Johnny and slashes his right arm. In desperation Johnny throws his knife at the thug, who tries to dodge but gets the knife stuck into his torso. Enraged the thug smashes Johnny's head into a wall and Johnny falls to the floor. He's out of action. The thug leans over to slit Johnny's throat but is permanently knocked to the floor by Timsons metal bar. The other two are easily beaten by Guy + co. Johnny is helped to his feet.]
Johnny: Jesus, that was brutal, but I'm still alive.
Cookie: Its over. Breathes a sigh of relief
Guy: Not quite, there's still 6 of us.
Donaldson: Yeah, Johnny, you hinted that you knew what to do about that.
Johnny: This may sound stupid but I just expected there would only be 5 of us left. I didn't want us to have it on our minds in the fights either.
Timson: One of us cant claim it, which one? How can we decide?
[Johnny falls back down to the floor and coughs up a lot of blood.]
Johnny: Looks like the decision has been made.
Ian: Are you sure?
Johnny: Who wants to be a part of a twisted society that forces you to kill innocents? It would be a tainted victory and a shadowed life. I will guard this entrance, you go ahead. Take the cure.
[There is the clang of a door unlocking, the Staff room door opens and pure white light streams into the dark hallway.]
Nurse: Can the 5 champions come through.
[The 5 drop their weapons and lower their heads, they are ushered in and then surrounded by the men with guns.]
Nurse: They're clear, move off.
[The men back off]
Nurse: So you are the last 5.
Guy: Yeah, lets have the cure then.
Nurse: Of course, there you go.
[Each of the 5 are given the cure]
Nurse: You're free to go. Congratulations.
Donaldson: Its a hollow victory.
[The 5 suddenly notice James Wheeldon, who is watching them with growing amusement.]
James Wheeldon: We weren't the only school who had to run a tournament you know. There was one more. You have to fight the survivors of the other school, It isn't over.
THE END
Pamphlet
So; you’re competing in the Tournament
An in depth explanation of the rules and intricacies of the tournament .
About your Vaccine:
Your ‘vaccine’ was in fact an injection of venom. The venom will take till the end of the day to kill you. So there is no advantage to not get involved in the tournament.
To add an edge to the game, the venom will deaden the nerve cells, this will take varying amounts of time per person.
The only cure for the venom is held by our officials and will only be given to the five champions.
Therefore, only five individuals may claim the prize.
The Rules:
Any breach of these rules will result in your disqualification from the tournament.
You may not leave the school grounds for more than five minutes in the school day.
You must move at least 100 metres per 2 hours.
There are some weapons lying about, these have been planted by our officials to add an edge to the game; these weapons include: Knives and Bows. There are no automatic weapons or recent weaponry. This is so that nobody is more proficient with the weapons than the majority of competitors.
Additional information
Rule enforcement
There is a tracking device in your bloodstream, this too was included in the ‘vaccine’, this ensures that should there be a breach of the rules, our officials are able to disqualify the culprits as necessary.
At the end of the school day only five people can claim the cure, if you are not there to claim it, you will not be given the cure.
